Ukrainian President Warns of Terror Threat To Europe's Largest Nuclear Plant
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has warned of a potential terrorist attack on Europe’s largest nuclear plant, which is now controlled by Russia, and urged other countries to take appropriate action. Zelenskyy stated that his government had briefed international representatives on the possible threat to the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.
The possibility for radiation to be released from the plant has raised concerns since Russian troops invaded Ukraine last year, and these concerns have heightened since March 2022 when Russia seized control of the plant. The UN’s atomic energy agency has been attempting to negotiate a safety perimeter to protect the facility since then.
Russia has denied accusations of planned attacks on the power plant, instead claiming to be the target of an “information and propaganda campaign”.
